Congressional Aide for Congresswoman Jackie Speier for 10 years (2008-2018), working on issues related to Veterans, Social Security, Education, and Medicare. In the last six years, Congresswoman Speier’s office has recovered over $5 million in veteran’s benefits through Mark’s advocacy.
Senior Field Representative for California State Assemblymember Gene Mullin from 2007-2008, working with both local governments and the general public, and being the lead staffer on housing and transportation issues.
Field Representative in 2006 for California State Assemblymember Fran Pavley of Southern California, who authored AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, which set the 2020 greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal into law.
South San Francisco Planning Commissioner since 2015, selected as Chair in 2018. As Planning Commissioner, Mark has advocated for working class families to obtain the American dream of becoming homeowners. Mark has consistently advocated for affordable housing units in new developments, supported small businesses, and promoted good jobs and wages by encouraging strong economic development.
South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Commissioner from 2008-2014, Board Chair 2013. During Mark’s tenure, the commission prioritized affordable recreational activities for all South San Francisco residents. While Mark was Board Chair, several parks were remodeled, including Westborough Park and the children’s playground in Orange Park. Mark spearheaded the “Movie in the Park” program in South San Francisco, which is regularly attended by a large number of residents in Orange Park.
President of the Filipino American Democratic Club of San Mateo County from 2013-2015, which outreaches to San Mateo County Filipino American community and engages Filipino Americans to become politically active.
Kumpares & Kumares (community outreach volunteers to the Filipino community) for Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA), 2007-2008. CORA is an agency in San Mateo County with the sole purpose of serving victims & survivors of domestic violence & abuse.
