Vision

Icon - Government building in speech bubble. Created by achmad mulyana from the Noun Project.Advocate for Westborough Residents, Businesses and Families
As a South San Francisco resident for over 30 years, my wife and I are raising our two young children here in Westborough. I will continue to ensure that Westborough has a strong voice on the City Council.

The City Council has created a financial assistance program for renters who have been affected by COVID-19. The Council also established small business grants to assist our local businesses during this difficult time. It’s important that we continue to provide financial assistance and resources to our residents and businesses in South San Francisco.

Like every city in the country, the Black Lives Matter movement has become a focal point in our conversations. We’ve taken steps as a city to focus more on inclusion and ending systemic racism, by allocating more resources to mental health services, creating a $300,000 Innovation Fund to protect essential Parks and Recreation programs for marginalized communities, and establishing the Mayor’s Committee on Racial and Social Equity (which I serve on) to have a community dialogue about ways to combat racism.

South San Francisco currently has a 4-year waitlist for pre-K. We need to build more affordable pre-K facilities in South San Francisco to meet the demand.

With schools going to distance learning, students need the necessary resources like free wi-fi to be able to connect with their teachers and classmates, and obtain educational materials. It’s imperative that we give our children the tools to succeed academically and grow socially.

We must tackle our affordability crisis with effective policies that keep South City families here, without sacrificing our city’s hometown feel.

We need to implement pedestrian safety measures, promote public transit, & improve traffic flow in our streets.

As Downtown undergoes major changes, we need to improve our infrastructure & attract new businesses so that Downtown continues to thrive.

As a father of two young children, I’ll prioritize affordable parks & recreation services, accessible childcare, & upgraded playing fields.

Since his election in 2018, Mark has brought new energy, a fresh voice, and strong leadership to the city council. He will continue to be open, transparent, and accountable to you, the people of South San Francisco.

As Constituent Services Director for Congresswoman Jackie Speier, and a Senior Aide to former California State Assemblymember Gene Mullin, Mark has worked tirelessly to help seniors, veterans, families, and children access valuable services. As a councilmember, Mark will continue to be accessible to the needs of residents. He will ensure that your concerns and issues regarding various city needs are always heard and addressed. His experience helping numerous South San Francisco residents gives him a crucial perspective on solving local issues.

“I am running to ensure that my hometown of South San Francisco remains a safe, prosperous, and vibrant place for all families in our community. I will be a champion for all South San Francisco residents.”

As a former Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Mark saw firsthand the importance of affordable parks and recreation services to improve quality of life. Mark will advocate for affordable fees for families to access parks and recreation services. Having played sports in South San Francisco from Little League to high school, Mark knows the importance of well-maintained playing fields. He will make sure this is a priority for the city council.

As a former Planning Commissioner, Mark has consistently advocated for affordable housing. When housing developments have been presented to the Planning Commission, Mark has asked, “Does this project help the overall affordable housing crisis?” On numerous occasions, Mark has been able to win concessions for below market-rate housing. These wins are for everyday South San Francisco families.

I will never forget where I came from and how much this community has given me. You will always know where I stand and what I believe in.
